 I.G.N.P

IGNP NAHAR PARIYOJNA
I.G.N.P.

I.G.N.P. I.G.N.P.

(Rajasthan Feeder) :-

 (i) लीलवा उपशाखा

Other River Projects :-

I.G.N.P.

The lifeline of Rajasthan, which quenched the thirst of the thirsty desert of western Rajasthan for centuries, was known as Indira Gandhi Canal Maruganga. The hot and dry desert is green, due to irrigation in this area by the waters of the Himalayas. I.G.N.P. I have no state partner other than Rajasthan

For the first time in 1948, under the inspiration of Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner, the then Chief Irrigation Engineer of Bikaner State, Mr. Kavarsan presented the outline of this canal in his article "Water Requirements in Bikaner State", that is why Kanwarsen is considered as the 'Father of Indira Gandhi Canal'. . Shri Kanwarsen was also made the first chairman of the 'Inter-State Rajasthan Canal Board' formed in 1958. Initially the name of this canal was 'Rajasthan Canal', but after the death of Indira Gandhi, it was renamed as 'Indira Gandhi Canal Project' (I.G.N.P.) on 3 November 1984. Harike Barrage - Source of Indira Gandhi Canal This barrage is built near 'Harike' at the confluence of Sutlej and Beas rivers in Firozpur district of Punjab state. From here 'Rajasthan Feeder' has been taken out, which is I.G.N.P. supplies water to the main canal

It is the world's largest multi-purpose project under construction. I.G.N.P. Its objectives are irrigation and drinking water. In 2010 (proposed). After completion, it will become the largest (largest) project in the world. This canal will irrigate a total area of 19.63 lakh hectare in the state. I.G.N.P. From eight districts of the state- Hanumangarh, Sriganganagar, Churu. Irrigation is happening or will happen in Bikaner, Nagaur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer.
Among these, the maximum command area is of Jaisalmer and Bikaner districts respectively. For this 9 branches, 1 sub branch and 7 lift canals have been taken out. The foundation stone of the project was laid on March 31, 1958 by the then Home Minister of India, Govind Vallabh Pant, while the first water in the canal was released on October 11, 1961 in the then Vice President Dr. Radhakrishnan Naurangadesar (Hanumangarh).

Rajasthan Feeder :-

This canal is 204 km from Harike Barrage to Masitawali Head (Hanumangarh). long, aimed at I.G.N.P. To supply water to the main canal. It passes through three states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. In the state of Rajasthan, the feeder is entered from Hanumangarh district. Water from feeder cannot be used for irrigation.

Indira Gandhi Project Main Canal :-

This canal is 445 km from Masitawali Head (Hanumangarh) to Mohangarh (Jaisalmer). It is long, which passes through four districts of Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Nine branches, one sub-branch and seven lift canals have been taken out from the main canal, which provide water for irrigation and drinking water. The 9 branches of this project and the districts irrigated by them are as follows -

1. Rawatsar Branch (Hanumangarh)
 2. Suratgarh Branch (Ganganagar)
 3. Anupgarh Branch (Ganganagar),
 4. Poogal Branch (Bikaner)
 5. Dator Branch (Bikaner)
 6. Birsalpur Branch (Bikaner)
 7. Charanwala Branch (Bikaner, Jaisalmer)
 8. Shaheed Birbal Branch (Jaisalmer)
9. Sagarmal Gopa Branch (Jaisalmer)

Out of the above nine branches, the Rawatsar branch is located on the left side of the main canal while all the other eight branches are located on the right side of the main canal. The first of these was the construction of the Rawatsar branch. This canal is 40 km parallel to the Pakistan border. is located at an average distance of 30% of the total irrigation of the canal comes from lift canals and 70% from branches.

Drinking Water :-

I.G.N.P. Nine districts of the state namely Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhun, Bikaner, Nagaur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Barmer will get drinking water. For this three major drinking water projects were made-

(A) Kanwarsen lift project (lifeline of Bikaner city)-

To provide drinking water to Bikaner city and villages of Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar districts.

 (B) Rajiv Gandhi Lift Project (Lifeline of Jodhpur city)-

For drinking water in 275 villages of Jodhpur city and Jodhpur and Barmer districts.

(C) Gandheli-Sahwa Project (Aapni Yojana)

To provide drinking water in Churu, Hanumangarh and Jhunjhunu districts in collaboration with KFW of Germany.

In the year 2009, drinking water was also made available to Jaisalmer and Ramgarh.

The slope of the north-western part of Rajasthan (the command area of IGNP) is from south-east to north-west, so all the lift canals of the project were taken out on the left side of the main canal and all the remaining eight branches except Rawatsar branch on the right side. Huh. I.G.N.P. The end end of the main canal is Mohangarh (Jaisalmer) and I.GN.P. The last point of GADRAROAD is (Barmer).

 I.G.N.P. Phase I of (1958-1986)-

In this phase Rajasthan feeder (204 km.), main canal (189 km.) from Masitawali head to Poogal (Bikaner), Kanwarsen lift canal and 3,454 km. Longer distributions were built.

 I.G.N.P. Phase II of (1992-2010)-

In this phase, the main canal (256 km) from Poogal to Mohangarh, 6 lift canals and 5,606 km. Longer distributions were built.

Apart from 9 branches and 7 lift canals, three sub-branches have also been taken out from Indira Gandhi Canal Project.

 (i) Lilwa Sub Branch

IGNP is drawn from the end end of the main canal (Mohangarh, Jaisalmer).

 (ii) Digha Sub Branch

IGNP has also been taken out from the end end of the main canal (Mohangarh, Jaisalmer).

(iii) Baba Ramdev Sub Branch :-

Situated in Jaisalmer district, Sagarmal is built from the end of the Gopa branch to Gadra Road (Barmer), formerly it was named Gadra Road sub-branch, which was later renamed as Barkatulla Khan sub-branch. Its present name is Baba Ramdev Subshakha.

  •   IGNP's Anupgarh, Poogal, Suratgarh, Charanwal Small-scale power stations have been set up at North and Birsalpur branches.
  •   The longest lift canal of IGNP is Kanwar Sen Lift Canal (151.64 km). Out of 8.6 MAF water received by Rajasthan by the decision of Eradi Commission (1986) constituted for Ravi-Byas water dispute, 7.59 MAF of water was used by I.G.N.P. will be done through (88.26%)
